Ginny & Georgia executive producer Debra J Fisher has shared a potential release window for when the series could return for season 2 on Netflix.

Ginny & Georgia season 2's release date gets an update from executive producer Debra Fisher. Created by Sarah Lampert for Netflix, the comedy-drama began airing in February 2021, charting the story of the awkward teenager Ginny Miller (Antonia Gentry) and her feisty 30-year-old mother Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) as they relocate to the New England town of Wellsbury where Georgia hopes to give her children a better life than she had. In Wellsbury, as Ginny and Georgia explore their complicated relationship, Ginny starts developing feelings for Marcus (Felix Mallard) while Georgia catches the attention of the town's mayor, Paul Randolph (Scott Porter).

Critical response to Ginny & Georgia has been somewhat mixed. The dark humor, multi-faceted characterizations, and a deeper probe into the American ugliness are the few things that critics and audiences like about the show, although Georgia's general approach to parenthood has been heavily criticized. The show also ran into controversy when it made an insensitive remark against Taylor Swift, for which it was lambasted by both audiences and the pop star herself. Yet, despite the mixed reception, Ginny & Georgia season 2 was renewed roughly two months after its premiere, with a recent post from Lampert revealing that post-production on the next batch of episodes was underway.

Now, Fisher, who writes for the series in addition to producing, has answered a burning question about Ginny & Georgia season 2. Responding to the numerous fan inquiries about the show's return, Fisher revealed that post-production on the show was ongoing and season 2 still needs some time before it's fully ready. She added that Netflix will also take its time to dub the series in other languages, but if everything goes smoothly, the show could come out by the end of the year. Elaborating more on the release window she proposed, Fisher later mentioned in the comments on her video that by "end of the year" she means "mid to late December at the earliest."

The new update from Fisher is promising and gives some closure about the return of the beloved Netflix series to those yearning for more Ginny & Georgia content. Right now, plot details on Ginny & Georgia season 2 aren't exactly abundant. The last episode of season 1 saw Ginny learns that Georgia had killed her husband after she found him being inappropriate with Ginny. After the revelation, Ginny runs away from her mother and Wellsbury with Austin (Diesel La Torraca) on her motorcycle, and season 2 is expected to pick up from that cliffhanger ending. While there is no telling how the story will play out, viewers can count on Georgia to track her children down in due course considering her reputation of always staying one step ahead. However, she might encounter difficulty getting her children back now that Austin's father, Gil (Aaron Ashmore) is coming into the picture.

While Fisher's update is encouraging, fans are still looking for something more specific. Hopefully, they won't have to wait much longer to learn about Ginny & Georgia season 2's exact return date as the global Netflix fan event, TUDUM, is scheduled for this Saturday, and there could be exclusive information about Ginny & Georgia's forthcoming season. Regardless, it does seem that the show is on track to hit the streaming giant by the end of the year, so fans can start looking out for trailers and other promotional material.
